Black Welsh Mountain Fleeces

Raw Fleece

A few notes: The weights listed are approximate. We weigh the fleeces when packing them but since wool absorbs water from the environment the weight will change with the weather. All prices are plus applicable sales tax and shipping and must be paid in full before shipment.

Keep in mind that the Black Welsh breed standard is for short wool, firm to handle and of medium softness. This means that normal fleeces will be shorter than most other breeds. We generally expect a good Black Welsh fleece to be 2-3 inches long while excellent fleeces are 3.5 or more inches long measured at the shoulder. We measure our wool at the shoulder. Black Welsh fleeces are also variable along the length of the sheep. The softest fiber is at the shoulder area. They have a longer coarser britch and short back and sides. Our softness evaluations are in relation to the breed standard not over the entire range of wool sheep can produce. We lightly skirt our fleeces so you get the entire range of wool from each sheep. The different sections will be suited to different projects.

Our fleeces are fully guaranteed. If you are not happy with your purchase you can return it and we will replace it with another one or apply your purchase price to roving or other wool products.
