Soil TestOur property is an old apple orchard. It was originally planted in Johnathan apples in 1905. These trees are slowly dieing but many are still productive. The orchard is protected by an 8 foot high deer and elk fence. We determined that the hops must be planted behind the elk fence to prevent deer predation during the winter. Within our property we initially identified 5 possible locations for the hop vines. On 29 March 2002 Dr. Ron Godin came to our property and we collected soil samples from each of the possible locations. A sixth sample in the unimproved and unirrigated cedar scrub was collected for baseline data.

All of the soil samples were taken back to the lab and tested for Ph and EC. The results are shown in the table below.
Based on these results we selected Site One as the location to plant the hop vines. The soil from site 1 was sent off for a full soil analysis. The full analysis data are shown below.
