Shop Building

Our new shop building really got going this past week. After the footers were poured, the actual foundation walls were formed and poured in. The back of the covered carport area will have a wall, but it’ll be open at the top for light and airflow. The back wall ended up being a bit taller than we expected – we really only need it to be sheep-high and ram-proof – but it’s easier to use a single standard form size rather than a custom one. Tom McCormick is again doing the concrete work. He did the new foundation for the restoration of our Gordon-Van Tine kit house, putting in a full basement.

Concrete forms have been erected to make concrete foundation walls.
Foundation walls and footings are being poured.

During the pour, it took some effort to work the concrete trucks around the cedar tree in front of the building. We’re trying to save it, even though it’s sort of in the way.

Some of the concrete work is already done. Our next step is to backfill the foundation, compact it, and get it ready to pour slabs. The carport, covered porch, and main building will all have concrete floors. It’ll be a really nice shop when it’s finished!
