It’s fall, and time once again for the latest in ovine fashions to be unveiled. Fashionable sheep will be sporting the latest in ovine coats for winter, as designer and manufacturer Oogie M feverishly works on her new line for debut later this week. The most fashion-forward ewes will be wearing coats this season to protect their valuable wool from contamination.
This season, the watchword is “patchwork.” Last season’s mid-range coats are being refreshed with a variety of colorful patches. While there are still a few styles with gathers at the neck and tail, the most attractive new options sport tail darts instead. Mid-range sizes include darts at the girth and forequarters, plus body-hugging leg straps.

Young ewes are foregoing the girth darts in favor of a leaner look. Their main colors this year are black and red, with white and black stitching visible along seams and edges. A few edgy ewes have opted for purple edging, making a bright statement against the snow and hay. Leg straps come in many colors, with purple and khaki being the most common this season.
We haven’t forgotten about our plus-size ewes either. They’ll be sporting a new line of maternity wear. Styled like their younger sisters’ coats, they include ample tummy room and discreet darts at the belly to prevent unsightly gaping. These larger sizes support the same leg straps, but with two pairs of tail tucks. A few also feature additional girth darts that can be adjusted as necessary.
Fabrics this year are durable, rugged, and easy to clean. Designed to survive harsh Colorado winters, they should stand up to harsh sunlight and manure staining alike. 120-denier nylon Oxford weave is the standard for this fall collection. Machine-washable and built to survive the rigors of fenced life, this line of sheep coats is sure to be a big hit with all the ewes.
