The culinary school students came back today for more farm work. Today, we evaluated all of the adult rams, trimmed toes, and gave dewormer as needed. We then took a field trip to Karla’s to pick up our chickens, which were butchered yesterday. The students got to see a bit of the butchering process. Next,… Continue reading

Bill was back to finish the porch roof today. Here you can see him bending and cutting the metal to form various edges. Later this evening, we went to the neighbor’s house for dinner. One of the local turkey flocks came strolling by. A large group of chicks and several hens came, plus a tom.… Continue reading

Our first buck of the season arrived today. It was a really nice two-by-three, still in velvet. He was skinny. I hope he fattens up before hunting season. Continue reading

The porch is still coming along nicely. The railing is now under construction. Plus, the pond by our house has some rather large frogs in it. This one was about the size of my hand. Continue reading

Here you can see Becky and Harri hanging with the rams. Today is chicken bath day. We’ll be showing them on Tuesday at the Delta County Fair, so they need to be bathed and cleaned now. Here’s Stephanie with one of the Golden Campines, as well as the rest of the unhappy, wet chickens. Continue reading

Today, we got back some sock samples that we’re having made from our Black Welsh Mountain wool. We’ll be offering both a hiking crew and a terry sock in men’s and women’s sizes. The labels turned out really nice. Bill used the tractor to do the final filling of the holes before the concrete truck… Continue reading

We moved Winnie in with the rams so that we could let them graze the front pear orchard. She’s really being good about staying with them. Construction work on the new porch has begun, and we removed the old porch cover today. Continue reading

These are our future laying hens. The Welsummers have pink feet, the Anconas have black and yellow feathers, the Golden Campines have blue feet, the Russian Orloffs have yellow feet, and the Silver Grey Dorkings have pink feet with an extra toe – I think. We’ll see if I’m right when they fully feather out.… Continue reading
