First Lamb of 2010!

, , ,

It’s a good thing we burned brush earlier. Today, the wind is blowing hard, with gusts up to 52 miles per hour. There’s a lot of dust in the air, and it certainly would have been too windy for a fire.

Of course, one of the ewes decided this was a good time to go into labor.

A Black Welsh Mountain ewe has gone into labor, with two other ewes looking on.

It’s the first lamb of the season: a nice, healthy ram lamb. Here are some photos of Ken watching the lamb. He’s wearing a mask because of the wind and dust.

Several hours later, its twin arrived. He was behind the placenta! Fortunately, he’s out and okay now.

The ewe from before has birthed yet another ram lamb.

Baaa! (Make the wind stop!)

This ewe is baaaa-ing aggressively!

There’s a lot of dust blowing in from Utah. Fortunately, there was also a nice break in the clouds in the late afternoon.

The sky is overcast and full of dust.
