No pictures today. This morning, before our farm tours started, we sorted some of the sheep and put coats on them. They’re now in the winter corrals on hay. They look a bit silly in their coats, but it keeps their wool clean. The tours are part of the Paonia Harvest Festival. Promptly at 11,… Continue reading

We were invited to the Culinary School of the Rockies dinner at Zephros Farm. Here you can see the students busily working on the feast. I got several pictures of the students, both with and without their chef instructors. These were from just before the rain started. We had a brief downpour, and all of… Continue reading
The culinary school students came back today for more farm work. Today, we evaluated all of the adult rams, trimmed toes, and gave dewormer as needed. We then took a field trip to Karla’s to pick up our chickens, which were butchered yesterday. The students got to see a bit of the butchering process. Next,… Continue reading

We did farm tours and had our smoked sheep kolbassi sausages available to sample. Monica from Small Potatoes Farm… Continue reading

The Celtic/Rock/Classical music group, Feast, performed a free concert in Paonia Town Park. We stopped by after a couple of beers at Revolution Brewing. Monica, Ken, Bart, Jeremy, and Celia were all there, as well as lots of other folks. Continue reading

We went back to the Delta County Fair today. I wanted to see how I did with my cloak and take a look at all the exhibits. My cloak took a first prize! I’ll get a picture when I pick it up on Sunday. The fair is a lot smaller this year compared to last… Continue reading

The West Elks Wine Trail Tour is this weekend, so we put up all of our farm tour signs. Unfortunately, my black thumb is finally starting to work. The main batch of corn isn’t doing well. They’re pale green with brown and drying leaves. The corn I transplanted into the main part of the corral… Continue reading
We went to Montrose to attend the Colorado Woolgrowers’ Convention on the 22nd and 23rd of July. I was thrilled to be chosen as the 2009 Colorado Woolgrower of the Year, “in recognition of your dedication to improving and promoting the Colorado sheep industry.” I managed to finish the cloak, and I wore it up… Continue reading
