We’re receiving even more snow. Ken has to plow every single day just to keep a path open. Even the yearling ewes are avoiding going out into their corral much. As you can see, the gate to the ram pen was drifted shut as well. We’ll have to shovel it out yet again to get… Continue reading
It’s time to get in and feed the sheep. We delivered a big bale of hay to the ewes and have almost plowed out enough to feed the ram lambs. Continue reading
The deep snow up high has brought the elk back down to the valley. This big bull is eating the old hay we spread as mulch last fall. Meanwhile, Ken is trying to clear out enough snow from the aisleway to let us in to feed the ram lambs. Continue reading
The snow is now deep enough to block the sheep pens. We’ll have to get it plowed out to feed the sheep! Continue reading
Every year, we have to take the irrigation pipes apart before winter sets in. We drain them out so they don’t freeze and crack. This year, Ken caught a small trout that was in the pipes. He brought him down to the big pond and set him free there. We’ve rescued several trout this way.… Continue reading
Here we are cleaning up before Garvin Mesa Day. Who says backhoes can’t have high technology? Here’s our version of Bluetooth! Continue reading
We’ve been looking for a better way to put food and oyster shell in the chicken tractor. Our existing feeders don’t do well, and dishes waste a lot of feed as the chickens scratch it out. I looked at a number of online DIY PVC pipe feeders, and here are the results. It’s a relatively… Continue reading
Larry is back, and this time he’s trimming the back cedars pasture. It’s mostly junipers, but we’ve always called them cedars. The goal is to remove all of the low-hanging branches (ladder fuels) so a fire won’t easily reach the crowns of the trees. It’s a lot of work, but it can really make a… Continue reading
We have a hose connected to a buried pipe that runs ditch water. It usually freezes partway through winter. It helps when we leave the hose running, but lately, we’ve discovered that we can keep the water running longer if we cover it with snow after we use it. Continue reading
We have a new addition: a small, dry stone retaining wall around the perimeter of the shop. It looks great! Continue reading
