The big storm predicted for western Colorado has, so far, only sent us rain. It’s created a huge mess. Right now it’s raining over the frozen ground, and once it does cool off and freeze, the driveways are going to be one solid sheet of ice. The worst part is that the snow pack is Continue reading

On Thursday, the construction crew got the back section of the shop covered. All of the plywood and underlayment were installed. Things went really fast. The back overhang into the orchard pasture is going to make a nice shelter for sheep in summer. All the doors and windows arrived on Thursday as well. They will Continue reading
Yesterday, we got all the ewes sorted into their secondary breeding groups. We also got their fall/winter worming done. We have to deworm with ivermectin drench after a hard freeze to kill the nose bots that infest the sheep. Well, we had a cold snap, then warm weather, and there was a hatch of flies, Continue reading

It’s Christmas day, and we’ve got a white Christmas for sure. The little rams are enjoying the snow. We also got a visit from the Christmas turkeys. They are a lot bigger than when we saw them last. Winnie and Becky are doing well guarding the perimeter of the pens. Continue reading

The construction crew worked really hard to get the new shop in the dry before the Christmas break. Not only is all the plywood done, but the underlayment is in place, too. All that’s left is the metal roof, but that can wait as long as six months if it has to. The underlayment is Continue reading

Work continues on the new shop building. Bill and his crew are scrambling to finish the roof before our next storm. They only need about three consecutive days of clear weather, but it doesn’t look like we’ll get that anytime soon. Today should be nice, though, so we’ll see how much they can get done. Continue reading

Thanks to the combination of construction and snow, all the chickens are being kept in their house this winter. To keep them happy, we give them lots of treats, food scraps, stale bread, vegetable pieces, and other bits of food. We have several breeds of laying hens, including Rose Comb Brown Leghorns, Golden Penciled Hamburgs, Continue reading

Both dormers got framed today, and a lot more siding was installed. It’s supposed to snow more tonight, but Bill and his crew are making good progress. It would be wonderful if the weather would just hold off until we get a roof on… Continue reading

On Monday, the construction crew got the joists up on the roof, but today they had to quit due to the snow. Ken’s been up top clearing snow off to try and keep it safe for when they have time to work on it. Our fencing crew couldn’t make it up the hill, so the Continue reading

This is Hervey the ram and 2 of his girlfriends. When we first saw them, the one in the white coat was sleeping on his shoulder. As I tried to get the camera out, the other ewe came up and started bothering them. I sure hope that that means they’re in heat and we’ll have Continue reading
